Crediton Community Bookshop is an independent bookshop and award-winning social enterprise that sells new books, actively seeks opportunities for books and reading activities in the community and offers great volunteering opportunities. We are looking for a dynamic and flexible person to assist promoting and managing stock and help us build on our reputation for brilliant books, great service and social benefit, in an organisation firmly rooted at the heart of its community.
This is an exciting opportunity to learn the workings of a small social enterprise and do a job that is varied, challenging and rewarding. The role will be mainly based at the shop and will include some evening and weekend work. The starting contract is 16 hours per week with more shifts available.
The ideal candidate will have customer service/retail experience, a love of books and reading and motivation to contribute to our organisation. Previous experience is less important than a willingness to work hard and to promote the brand and values of CCB. We are looking for someone reliable, responsible and excellent at interacting with the public. Experience of Microsoft Office and good numeracy skills are essential.
Duties will include: providing customer service support on a wide range of enquiries; stock management and shelf tidying; POS and cash handling; data entry & retrieval; keeping the shop clean and tidy; assisting with events. Some tasks include heavy lifting.
There will be and training to get involved in other areas of the enterprise and scope to develop the role around your own skills and interests, for example:
• social media
• website development
• evaluating social impact
• blog & reviews
• working with volunteers
• pop-up shops
• subscription service
This contract is for 16 hours per week, fixed for 6 months with potential to extend.
Rate of pay: £8.75/hr
